Antony graduated from Liverpool John Moores University in 2012 with a 1st class honours BSc in Computer Technology from there he joined AIMES as a Systems Administrator. As a Sys Admin he played a role in the day to day operations of the AIMES cloud infrastructure which was based upon Citrix, VM Ware and Windows technologies. Over a 3 year period Antony gained responsibilities in Data Centre Management and is a core member of the Data Centre Operations team. Antony consults with AIMES clients to design, implement and Project Manage their cloud environment implementation from concept to completion. Antony plays an active role in the co-ordination of AIMES R&D Projects which AIMES participate in both in the United Kingdom and within the European Union.
James Smedley BSc (hons) E-Business, previously worked as a project manager for Novartis Vaccines' web-based production data management platform, providing near to real time analytics to inform and allow the optimisation of production methods. He joined the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine as Data Management Lead for the Tropical Clinical Trials Unit, developing research data management and information governance and security policies to underpin their research portfolio. James was appointed in September 2016 as the Senior Data Architect at AIMES on the Connected Health Cities project with the remit to streamline heterogeneous data sources into a data-warehouse which will underpin the learning health system. James has a strong background in research data management leading an international collaboration of data managers to define standard operating procedures for clinical trial data management. James has a strong analytical background delivering solutions that improve the user experience and enable process optimisation and improvement.
Alberto is R&D Software Laboratory Manager and R&D project leader at the ICT division (IT Competitiveness Team) in Tecnalia Research & Innovation. He graduates as Software Engineer at Universidad de Deusto in 1998. At the moment is working on two main lines: Cyber-Physical Systems & DevOps, related to e-Administration, e-Health and citizens' services. During the last years he has applied those topics in some main contexts: software development (focus on Software Product Lines and Variability management), open source standardization and cybersecurity. Alberto also participated in previous FP7 and on-going H2020 projects related to security, cloud computing and variability like SWEPT, MUSA, CYRSTAL and VARIES.
Xabier Larrucea is a computer engineer (2002), having obtained his PhD in software engineering in 2007 and an Executive MBA in 2008. Xabier started his research career in 2001 at IRISA INRIA and joined the European Software Institute in 2002 where he has occupied several positions. Since 2011 he works at Tecnalia as a research scientist, and his main interests are software engineering, metamodelling, software process improvement and safety critical applications. He is IEEE senior member, and he is IEEE Software Constituency Ambassador for Spain and Latin America.
Dr. Jason X. Mansell is a computer engineer (1998), having obtained his PhD in software engineering in 2006 and an Executive MBA in 2011. Since 1998 Jason has been involved in research and development projects linked to software engineering, software process improvement, component-based development and Model Driven Development. Currently his position is System Productivity team leader, with the main goal of development processes and tools for IoT and CPS engineering, focused on interoperability and efficient deployment and maintenance of this type of systems.
I originally trained as an engineer but after completing a late onset Degree from the OU I changed careers and joined the early years of the NHS Informatics program. I have worked in all sectors of the NHS including Acute, Mental Health and community services. I joined the National Programme for IT (NPfIT) at its inception and was the Deputy CIO at the former Cumbria and Lancashire SHA and continued in a senior role with the Northwest SHA until the cancellation of the programme. I also worked for a Lancashire CCG as the interim Chief Operating Officer supporting them towards authorisation. I am currently Head of the Lancashire Patient Record Exchange Service (LPRES) which aims to build a data exchange platform to enable the sharing of data sets, images and documents that will inform and support the front line clinicians and social care professionals giving them the relevant information at the right time and at the point of care. I have been in the NHS for most of my adult working life and I have seen and experienced it at its best and at its worst. I have always believed that my role – as a non-clinical professional – is to exploit my skills, be it in energy conservation or now in the new digital age, to help the front line clinicians provide good quality safe care to the patient in a safe and efficient environment.
Matthias Pocs leads Stelar's research on data protection by design in FP7 and H2020 projects. In industry and policy, he represents ANEC 'The European consumer voice in standardisation' at CEN-CENELEC JWG 8 under European Commission Request M/530. Matthias leads European standards body CEN TC 251 WG I. At national level, he represents the German DIN Consumer Council. He authored numerous peer-reviewed publications as a legal researcher at a German university and worked at an EU authority, the European Data Protection Supervisor, after having graduated LL.M. in ICT law and obtained degrees in (EU) business law at universities in Germany, Norway and the United Kingdom.
Karl has over 25 years of senior technical and commercial experience in high technology in both blue chip and SMEs with the last 10 years in CEO and executive board positions in high profile start-ups. He has broad commercial experience backed by outstanding technical understanding. He is a recipient of the Royal Academy of Engineering MacRobert Award for ‘outstanding innovation in engineering’ and was also part of a small commercial team that won 1st place in the UK and 4th in Europe in the Deloitte and Touché European FAST 500 in 2002.
Klaus is the founding CEO of Metrarc and responsible for all aspects of the company including strategy and growth. He is an internationally recognized expert in embedded system, system-on-chip technologies and encryption and security technology. He is Professor in the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering at the University of Essex and holds visiting positions at the University of Kent, the University of Jena and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Labs. He has received significant funding for his research work from EU, EPSRC and industrial sources as well as several proof-of-concept awards. Klaus is founding Chief Scientist of UltraSoC Technologies (which he founded with Karl) a developer of silicon IP for the semiconductor industry where he shaped early technology development and commercialization and helped raise over $10 million in VC funding. He has authored over 180 papers and holds 12 granted patents.
Gareth is the founding CTO of Metrarc and leads the technical program. Gareth is a Reader in Secure Electronic Systems at the University of Kent where his research interests focus on security and pattern recognition. He has lead several large and complex international research and development programs. He has developed a generalized document security system and has done substantial work on the initial investigation and development of techniques for the direct generation of encryption keys from ICMetric samples. Gareth is an internationally recognized expert in security for electronic systems and has received substantial funding from the EU, EPSRC and industrial sources as well as software related proof-of-concept funding from finance South East. He has authored numerous publications and several patents.
Alberto was born in 1962 and graduated at Politecnico di Milano. He is involved in healthcare process re-engineering projects in HSR since 1989. He was in charge of several automation projects, designing and realizing robotic work cells for Patient- and Operator-safety critical processes. From 1992 to 1996 he was assigned to the Information Technology dept., where robotics experience merged with process analysis, Information System analysis, design and implementation. Since 2002 he is the director of the e-Services for Life and Health Research Unit which manages the three research programmes: Smarter and Safer Hospital, Smarter and Healthier Life, Smarter and Healthier City. He has been Project Coordinator of FP5 DRIVE and of FP6 PIPS Project and presented his work in 100+ national and international scientific congresses. He is inventor of 3 patents and trademark in the field of health innovative technologies and author of videogames and edutainment products.
Andrea Micheletti was born in 1978; after a M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering (Politecnico of Milan – 2003) he started his collaboration with e-Services for Life and Health Research Unit (San Raffaele Hospital and Research Institute) being involved in different European, national and local research projects (among others FP6 PIPS “Personalized Information Platform for Life & Health Services” and FP7 MASTER “Managing Assurance, Security and Trust for Services”). Particularly he worked on the following aspects: business process analysis and re- engineering, risk analysis and management, case studies definition, requirements specification, prototypes implementation support, demonstrators validation & (end-users) evaluation. Since 2011 he is in staff to the San Raffaele Hospital Medical Direction – Quality dept. working on performances and outcomes evaluation, quality monitoring (dashboard of indicators), healthcare process analysis, risk analysis, Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle application to business processes and quality certification.
Professorial Fellow in IT at the University of Southampton, and Research Director at the IT Innovation Centre He has nearly 30 years’ experience in IT research. His current focus is on the convergence of services, networks, content and devices known as the Future Internet. His research interests include dynamic security and business models, risk management and adaptation in multi-stakeholder ICT systems. He coordinated FP7 ICT-SEC SERSCIS (dynamic SOAs for critical infrastructure protection), and led work to develop a unified socio-technical model of trust in FP7 ICT OPTET. He was a co-founder and for many years chair of the EC/NESSI Software and Services Trust and Security Working Group, and served on the EC Future Internet Architecture Board established to provide technical input to the Future Internet PPP in FP7, and the Vision Working Group of the 5G PPP which is developing next generation mobile networks in H2020. He leads a portfolio of mainly IT security projects at IT Innovation including H2020 SHIELD, and also contributes to the interdisciplinary GCHQ Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security at the University of Southampton.
Research Engineer at the IT Innovation Centre Since obtaining her MSc in Applied Computer Science in 2012, she has worked on research projects such as TRIDEC, In BonFIRE, Experimedia and REVEAL, involving knowledge capture or knowledge modelling and decision support. Most recently, she has been involved in security-related projects like OPTET and 5G-ENSURE, where she developed semantic models capturing knowledge of security threats. Her main research interests include semantic technologies, knowledge and data modelling.
Derick James is Symphonic Software’s CEO and has over 30 years’ experience in consultancy and IT-driven business change through Board level roles in both industry and information technology organisations. He has a strong track record in change focused IT strategy, software products and consultancy. Derick’s corporate experience includes IT consultancy in Ernst & Young and Sopra Group, where he had responsibility for their Scottish private sector clients, including major financial services and utilities clients.
Dr. Micha Moffie is researcher in the Data Security and Privacy group in IBM Haifa Research Lab. Since joining IBM Haifa Research lab IBM in 2012, he has been involved in several research projects in the areas of privacy and trust. Before joining IBM, Micha received his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Northeastern University, and a M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Computer Science from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.
Mr. Muhammad Barham is researcher in the Data Security and Privacy Group in IBM. He acquired his B.Sc. in Computer Science from the Technion and acquired his M.Sc. from Haifa University, under the supervision of prof. Orr Dunkelman. His main interests are cryptography (In particular, Hash Functions and Symmetric Block Ciphers) and privacy technologies. Since joining IBM Haifa Research in 2013, he has been working on format preserving encryption, format preserving tokenization and order preserving encryption, and has contributed to EU projects such as Sunfish and PrismaCloud.
She graduated from Medical School at the University of the Basque Country in 1990. Eunate specialized in Emergencies and Primary Care at Osakidetza, Basque Health Service and holds a Master’s in Quality and Occupational Risk Protection. She has over 15 years clinical experience in both Primary and Emergency care and in health assessment research, particularly in the fields of clinical epidemiology and health outcomes. She was contracted as post-doctoral researcher by the Spanish Network on Infectious Diseases. She was member of the Board of the Basque Society for Health Education. Currently she is the coordinator and manager of research proposals in BioCruces Health Research Institute.
He graduated as Physician at the University of the Basque Country in 1989. He is specialist in Emergency and Primary Care. He holds a Master in Body Damage Assessment. In 2002 he began working in the emergency department of Cruces University Hospital. He has participated in various research projects such as the validation of diagnostic scales and decision algorithms in prevalent diseases such as pulmonary embolism. Currently, he is member of the committee of Quality and patient safety in the emergency department, working to improve clinical management and the assessment and efficient implementation of new technologies. He also actively participates at the Spanish Emergency Medicine Society in projects related to patient safety.
She graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of the Basque Country in 1997 and also in Computer Science Engineering from Deusto University in 1986. She has developed her career combining both knowledge Areas, technological and Medicine. She worked in Consultancy (Arthur Andersen) and Information Systems (KEON) for ten years, participating in three European Projects and supervising a lot of technological projects at national level. She also entered in LABEIN, a Technological Research Centre, in which she specialized in Artificial Intelligence, collaborating also in European Research Projects. Along the last twenty years, she has focused her professional life in the Public Health System, in management positions at Hospitals and also at research Institutions. She has held the position of Medical Director, deputy Director and Management Control Head at Cruces University Hospital and Santiago Hospital in the Basque Country. Then she moved to the position of Clinical Studies Unit Manager at the Basque Health Research Foundation (BIOEF), until her current position as Managing Director at BioCruces Health Research. She is also an EFQM auditor for the Basque Country (EUSKALIT) and auditor of Health Research Institutes at the Health National Institute Carlos III.
Control at Cruces University Hospital, he is a medical doctor with a degree in Medicine and Surgery by the University of the Basque Country as well as a certificate in Healthcare Management from EADA Business School. As for his work experience and background, for six years he held the position of medical director of Txagorritxu Hospital. He also worked as Chief of the Healthcare Department for the Central Management of Osakidetza as well as of the Admissions Department at Cruces University Hospital. Aside from that, he coordinates the hospital cancer records office for Cruces Hospital and was president of the Documentation Society of the North of Spain (NORDOC) from 2008 to 2011.
Has been working as a doctor in the Emergency Unit in Txagorritxu Hospital (Basque Country) and in Health Management in Osakidetza. Since 2011, he works as Quality Deputy Director in Osakidetza. Aside from that, he coordinates the Pilot Study of the European Project SUSTAINS in the Basque Country. Moreover, he has a broad experience in health management and ehealth medical history, within the Basque Country and in collaboration with Spanish and European Health Systems.
Since joining Ibermática, Juan Carlos has accumulated experiences in all activities and phases of Project Development, both in the technical field and in the field of management. Technically, due to the diversity of environments, tools and methodologies with which he has worked, he has allowed the assessment and advice to different companies and adequate sizing to the needs of your business environment. In recent years, he has led the direction of the Department of Public Health Sector in the North Geographical Unit, managing resources and projects developed in that area. He has been responsible by Ibermática address the Osabide project and Osabide Global to implement management tools and clinical Osakidetza post . In parallel he has been involved in several innovation projects being responsible by Ibermática to participate in the Polo Aging Matia . He has also participated significantly in various R & D projects such as Etorgais U ( TZ \ CH) i, HOBC, or Gaitek V + I ( Independent Living ) , all relating to the provision of healthcare services.

Oscar Álvarez is a Computer Engineer from the University of Deusto. He has been working in Ibermática since 1998 within the Health area. Once I3B was founded, he has been involved in the eHealth area, in charge of R&D projects. Among them is the technical direction of the development of Kirus, Clinical Safety Position in the surgical field and Osabide Global project that since 2005 has been leading, along with professionals of Ibermática, taking care of the more technical aspects of the design and construction of Software that supports the specialized medical history that serves to configure the work environment of the medical professional for external consultations, hospitalization and emergencies. It has also participated in the evolution of Osabide Global, to also incorporate the specific functionalities of Primary Care with the final purpose of having a single application for the management of a single Patient Clinical History, explicit and shared by all Clinical Professionals. In addition, he has been involved in several R&D projects under different funding programmes (national and international).
He is graduated as Computer Engineer (MSc) from the University of Deusto and he also hold a Master in Systems Integration by the University of Deusto. In addition he is a PMP (Project Management Professional) certified project manager. After two years as a programmer analyst and programmer for maintenance management of the Iberdrola platform customers , in 2000 he joined the Ibermática Group, where he has performed functions such as technical development, design and construction experience in technological environment and functional environment, analyst and programmer analyst for different entities and sectors. After the creation of Ibermática Innovation Institute (i3B) in 2005, he is in charge of the technical management of the R&D projects. In this department he has been actively involved in national and international R & D project in different key areas such as: Health, Industry 4.0 and Energy.
